樣本資料庫包括三種類型的記錄:員工、部門和員工的記錄。

每個員工具有標識號、姓名、聘用日期、工資和經理。一些員工除了其工資之外還獲得傭金。所有與員工相關的資訊都儲存在 emp 表中。

樣本公司位於多個地區,因此資料庫跟蹤部門的位置。將每個公司員工分配到一個部門。通過唯一部門編號和簡簡短名稱來標識每個部門。每個部門都與一個位置相關聯。所有與部門相關的資訊都儲存在 dept 表中。

公司還跟蹤員工所從事工作的相關資訊。一些員工已在該公司中工作很長時間,並且擔任過不同職位、獲得加薪、轉換部門等。當員工狀態發生變化時,公司會記錄前一個職位的結束日期。將添加新工作記錄和開始日期、新職位、部門、工資以及狀態變化的原因。所有員工記錄都儲存在 jobhist 表中。
