Elastic IP Address:Configure fine-grained monitoring

Overview

A large amount of Internet BGP traffic flows through EIPs. Internet BGP traffic requires low network latency and high quality Internet bandwidth. If the Internet bandwidth usage of an EIP reaches 100% but the bandwidth specification is not upgraded, packet loss may occur. As a result, the client performance and user experience are severely degraded. The fine-grained monitoring feature allows you to monitor traffic that flows through an EIP and adjust the bandwidth of an EIP in a timely manner.

• Fine-grained

  The fine-grained monitoring feature collects monitoring data at 1-second intervals to improve monitoring efficiency.

• Easy to store

  Logs generated by the fine-grained monitoring feature are stored in Logstores of Simple Log Service. In addition, Simple Log Service provides reports and the alerting feature.

Enable fine-grained monitoring

1. Log on to the Elastic IP Address console .

2. In the left-side navigation pane, choose Access to Internet > Internet Tool Kit.

3. On the Internet Tool Kit page, find the Fine-grained Monitoring card and click Fine-grained Monitoring.

4. If you do not have the permissions to enable fine-grained monitoring, follow the instructions on the Fine-grained Monitoring page and the following information to complete the authorization.

   Before you enable fine-grained monitoring as a RAM user, you must grant permissions to the RAM user by using an Alibaba Cloud account.

   1. Grant the permissions to access cloud resources: Click Authorize Now to authorize Virtual Private Cloud (VPC) to access Simple Log Service and authorize Simple Log Service to access other cloud resources.

      You can also click Authorize VPC to access Simple Log Service and Authorize Simple Log Service to access other cloud resources to complete the authorization.

   2. Activate Simple Log Service: Click Activate Now to activate Simple Log Service.

      Note

      The bandwidth data collected by the fine-grained monitoring feature of EIP is stored in a Logstore. Each account has a free quota of 500 MB. If the quota is exhausted, you are charged for the extra usage. For more information, see Overview and Pay-by-feature.

5. In the top navigation bar, select the region of the EIP for which you want to enable the fine-grained monitoring feature.

6. On the Fine-grained Monitoring page, find the EIP that you want to manage and click Enable Fine-grained Monitoring in the Actions column.

7. In the Log Settings panel, select a Simple Log Service project and a Logstore and click OK.

   You can select an existing project and Logstore, or create a project and a Logstore.

View monitoring data

After you enable fine-grained monitoring, you can view the monitoring data.

1. Log on to the Elastic IP Address console .

2. In the left-side navigation pane, choose Access to Internet > Internet Tool Kit.

3. On the Internet Tool Kit page, find the Fine-grained Monitoring card and click Fine-grained Monitoring.

4. In the top navigation bar, select the region of the EIP whose monitoring data you want to view.

5. On the Fine-grained Monitoring page, find the EIP and click in the Monitor column.

6. On the page of the project, you can view and analyze the monitoring data.

   In the Simple Log Service console, you can query data, analyze data, download data, deliver data, process data, and configure alerts.

   • On the Log Storage > Logstores tab, you can view the source monitoring data.

   • On the Dashboard page, you can view multi-dimensional dashboards and query statements.

Disable fine-grained monitoring

You can disable the fine-grained monitoring feature of EIP as needed. After you disable fine-grained monitoring, EIPs are no longer monitored.

1. Log on to the Elastic IP Address console .

2. In the left-side navigation pane, choose Access to Internet > Internet Tool Kit.

3. On the Internet Tool Kit page, find the Fine-grained Monitoring card and click Fine-grained Monitoring.

4. In the top navigation bar, select the region of the EIP for which you want to disable fine-grained monitoring.

5. On the Fine-grained Monitoring page, find the EIP that you want to manage and click Disable Fine-grained Monitoring in the Actions column.

6. In the message that appears, click OK.
