VPN Gateway versions are continuously updated with new features, improved compatibility with third-party devices, and fixes for known issues in earlier versions. Running an outdated VPN gateway may expose your environment to risks. We recommend that you upgrade to the latest version to take advantage of these improvements and more stable network performance.
This topic describes how to upgrade a VPN gateway that is associated with SSL-VPN connections only. To upgrade a VPN gateway associated with IPsec-VPN connections, see Upgrade a VPN gateway.
Prerequisites
Verify that your VPN gateway requires an upgrade. On the details page of your VPN gateway in the VPN Gateway console, check the Upgrade button:
Already on the latest version: The Upgrade button is dimmed. Hovering over it displays a message confirming the gateway is already up to date. Newly created VPN gateways are on the latest version by default.
Upgrade available: The Upgrade button is active. You can click it to start the upgrade.
Usage notes
The VPN gateway is unavailable during the upgrade and all existing connections are interrupted. Schedule the upgrade during a maintenance window to minimize service disruption.
The upgrade takes approximately 10 minutes.
Upgrading a VPN gateway is free of charge.
All VPN gateway configurations are preserved after the upgrade.
Procedure
Log on to the VPN Gateway console.
In the top navigation bar, select the region where the VPN gateway resides.
On the VPN Gateways page, find the target VPN gateway and click its ID.
On the details page, click Upgrade in the upper-right corner.

In the Upgrade VPN Gateway dialog box, read and accept the risks that may occur during the upgrade, and then click OK.
After you click OK, the system begins upgrading the VPN gateway. Wait until the upgrade is complete.
