This topic describes the impacts and billing of the configuration changes of ApsaraDB for SelectDB instances.
Impacts of configuration changes
After you change the configurations of an ApsaraDB for SelectDB instance, the ID, endpoint, data, IP address whitelist, and existing accounts and passwords of the instance remain unchanged.
Configuration changes of subscription instances
If your instance uses the subscription billing method, you can create, delete, scale out, and scale in subscription or pay-as-you-go clusters when you change the configurations of the instance.
If you stop a pay-as-you-go cluster in an instance, the computing resources of the cluster are released and you are no longer charged for these computing resources. This does not affect the billing of the storage resources of the instance. The cache size of the cluster is retained and you are still charged for the cache. This minimizes resource waste and reduces costs.
The following table describes the fees that are generated when you change the configurations of a subscription instance.
Operation | Billing method | Billing rules |
Scale out a cluster | Subscription | The fees for scaling out a subscription cluster of an instance are calculated based on the following formula: Fees for scaling out a subscription cluster = (Price per day after scale-out - Price per day before scale-out) × Number of remaining days before the instance expires. For more information about the prices, see Billable items and unit prices. Note The number of remaining days before an instance expires may not be an integer and is accurate to 12 decimal places. For example, if the number of remaining days before an instance expires is 31 days and 10 hours, it is recorded as 31.416666666667 days. |
Pay-as-you-go | After you scale out a pay-as-you-go cluster of an instance, you are charged for the cluster on an hourly basis based on the configurations of the cluster after scale-out. During the hour when the configurations of the cluster are changed, you are charged fees by the minute separately before and after the change. Then, the system generates bills and deducts fees after the hour ends. For more information about the prices, see Billable items and unit prices.
Scale in a cluster | Subscription | After you scale in a subscription cluster of an instance, Alibaba Cloud returns the amount that corresponds to the number of remaining days before the instance expires to your account based on the original payment method. |
Pay-as-you-go | After you scale in a pay-as-you-go cluster of an instance, you are charged for the cluster on an hourly basis based on the configurations of the cluster after scale-in. During the hour when the configurations of the cluster are changed, you are charged fees by the minute separately before and after the change. Then, the system generates bills and deducts fees after the hour ends. For more information about the prices, see Billable items and unit prices.
Create a cluster | Subscription | The fees for creating a subscription cluster in an instance are calculated based on the following formula: Fees for creating a subscription cluster = Monthly fee for the cluster based on its configurations × (Number of remaining days before the instance expires/30 days). |
Pay-as-you-go | After you create a pay-as-you-go cluster, you are charged for the cluster on an hourly basis based on the configurations of the cluster. For more information about the prices, see Billable items and unit prices.
Delete a cluster | Subscription | If you delete a subscription cluster from an instance, Alibaba Cloud returns the amount that corresponds to the number of remaining days before the instance expires to your account based on the original payment method. |
Pay-as-you-go | If you delete a pay-as-you-go cluster, the cluster is released and you are no longer charged for the cluster. |
Configuration changes of pay-as-you-go instances
If your instance uses the pay-as-you-go billing method, you can create, delete, scale out, and scale in only pay-as-you-go clusters when you change the configurations of the instance.
After you create, delete, scale out, or scale in a pay-as-you-go cluster in a pay-as-you-go instance, the billing rules of the cluster remain unchanged and the system deducts fees once per hour. During the hour when the configurations of the cluster are changed, you are charged fees by the minute separately before and after the change. Then, the system generates bills and deducts fees after the hour ends. For more information about the prices, see Billable items and unit prices.
