What is Alibaba Cloud DNS PrivateZone?

Alibaba Cloud DNS PrivateZone is a private domain name resolution and management service based on Virtual Private Cloud (VPC). You can use Alibaba Cloud DNS PrivateZone to resolve private domain names to IP addresses in one or more custom VPCs.

Alibaba Cloud DNS PrivateZone allows you to access Elastic Compute Service (ECS) instances, Server Load Balancer (SLB) instances, Object Storage Service (OSS) buckets, and other Alibaba Cloud resources by using private domain names. However, you cannot use the private domain names outside VPCs. You can also connect your VPC to on-premises data centers over Express Connect circuits or VPN gateways. This way, you can share resources between on-premises data centers and VPCs by using a private domain name.

System architecture

The system architecture of Alibaba Cloud DNS PrivateZone consists of the control layer and the resolution layer.

Control layer: The control layer provides external services through the console and API operations, and implements the addition, deletion, modification, query, and storage of domain name resolution data, configuration data, and log data. The control layer is located in the China (Zhangjiakou) region.
Resolution layer: The resolution layer provides external services through a cluster of DNS servers deployed around the world. The resolution layer receives the domain name resolution data distributed from the control layer, and provides responses to the query requests for the domain name resolution data. The resolution layer is located in all Alibaba Cloud regions and zones that are available to the public.
