This topic describes the basic concepts related to drop-down suggestions, blacklists and whitelists, and top searches and hints in search guidance.
The drop-down suggestion feature is a basic feature of OpenSearch. This feature provides recommended search queries for you to select when you enter a search query. You may find the expected search query before you enter the full content of the search query. This helps you quickly obtain the expected search results. For more information, see Drop-down suggestions.
Blacklists and whitelists are used to intervene in the candidate search queries of drop-down suggestions, top searches, and hints. Search queries that contain keywords in a blacklist do not appear in the candidate search queries. If a search query in a whitelist meets the recommendation condition, the search query preferentially appears in the candidate search queries. For more information, see Blacklists and whitelists.
Top searches and hints are essential features of a complete search engine. They are often displayed in prominent positions in or near the search box and provide indispensable business value. For more information, see Top searches and hints.
