Refunds

Updated at: 2025-04-08 10:25

You can request refunds only for subscription resources. If you no longer use a subscription resource, you can unsubscribe from the resource and request a refund for the resource. Then, Alibaba Cloud collects the resource based on the rules for unsubscribing from resources and refunds you the fees for the resource. If you no longer use a pay-as-you-go resource, you cannot request a refund for the resource but you can release or delete the resource in the Alibaba Cloud Management Console. After you release or delete the resource, billing for the resource stops.

Refund scenarios supported by ENS

The following refund scenarios are supported for ENS subscription resources:

  • Partial refund (before an instance expires): You can request a partial refund for an unexpired instance. For more information, see Unsubscription rules.

  • Subscription refund (Not yet take effect): You can request a refund for a subscription or renewal that has not taken effect yet. You can cancel a cloud resource renewal order that has not taken effect. For more information, see Unsubscription rules.

  • Resource configuration downgrade refund:When the specifications of your subscription instance exceed your business requirements, you can downgrade the instance specifications in real time if you are granted permissions to perform real-time configuration downgrades. When you downgrade resource configurations, the system calculates the refund based on the refund rules. For more information, see Refund rules for configuration downgrades.

  • Refund for billing method changes: After you change the billing method of an instance from subscription to pay-as-you-go, fees are generated based on the actual usage. The fee for the remaining subscription is refunded. This helps reduce costs and flexibly manage resources. For more information, see Refund rules for changing the billing method from subscription to pay-as-you-go.

Disks that are created together with instances

Subscription system disks and data disks cannot be separately released or refunded. You can unsubscribe from an Edge Node Service (ENS) instance. Then, the system disk of the instance is released and refunded together with the instance. After you release or refund an instance, the data on the system disk is lost and cannot be restored.

Refund rules

When you initiate a refund: Refundable amount = Paid amount - Consumed amount

  • The paid amount is the money that you paid and does not include the amount that is covered by coupons or vouchers.

  • The consumed amount is calculated based on the following rules:

    • For resources used for less than 28 days: Consumed amount = (Daily unit price × Usage duration × Discount for the usage duration) × 1.5

    • For resources used for 28 days or longer: Consumed amount = Daily unit price × Usage duration × Discount for the usage duration

  • Daily unit price = Order price/Order duration.

  • The usage duration refers to the actual consumption duration of the subscribed resources. Usage duration = Refund time - Order start time. The usage duration is accurate to days, and a usage duration that is shorter than one day is rounded up to one day.

  • Order duration = Order end time - Order start time. The order duration is rounded down.
