Elastic IP Address:Manage idle EIPs

Last Updated:Aug 26, 2024

Idle elastic IP addresses (EIPs) are displayed in the EIP console. You can manage idle EIPs to reduce costs. This topic describes how to manage idle EIPs.

View and manage idle EIPs

You can view idle EIPs on the Idle Instance page. You can also release idle EIPs, associate idle EIPs with cloud resources, or add idle EIPs to whitelists based on your business requirements.

  1. Log on to the Elastic IP Address console .
  2. In the left-side navigation pane, choose O&M and Monitoring > Idle Instance.

  3. On the Idle Instance page, set the Resource Type parameter to EIP to view idle EIPs.

By default, the Idle Period parameter is set to 7 Days. This means that only the EIPs that remain idle for more than seven days are displayed on the Idle Instance page.

You can select an idle period from the Idle Period drop-down list above the idle instance list on the Idle Instance page. The valid values of the Idle Period parameter are 3 Days, 7 Days, and 14 Days.

  4. Perform the following operations on idle EIPs based on your business requirements.

    Operation

    Description

    Release an idle EIP

If you confirm that an idle EIP is no longer required, you can release the idle EIP.

    1. On the Idle Instance page, find the idle EIP that you want to release and click Release in the Actions column.

    2. In the message that appears, click OK.

Associate an idle EIP with a cloud resource

    1. On the Idle Instance page, find the idle EIP that you want to associate with a cloud resource and click Bind in the Actions column.

    2. In the upper-right corner of the EIP details page, click Resources.

    3. In the Associate EIP with Resource dialog box, configure the Instance Type parameter, select the instance with which you want to associate the EIP, and then click OK.

Add an idle EIP to a whitelist

If you want to retain an EIP for a long period of time, you can add the EIP to the whitelist. After the EIP is added to the whitelist, the system does not send notifications to you if the EIP becomes idle.

    1. On the Idle Instance page, find the idle EIP that you want to add to the whitelist and click Add to Whitelist in the Actions column.

    2. In the Confirm message, click OK.

    3. If you want to remove an EIP from the whitelist, find the EIP that you want to remove on the Idle Instance page and click Remove from Whitelist in the Actions column.

Configure notifications for idle EIPs

You can configure notification rules for idle EIPs. If an EIP stays idle for a longer period than the specified idle period, the system notifies you of the idle EIP. This helps you monitor EIPs and manage idle EIPs at the earliest opportunity.

  1. Log on to the Elastic IP Address console .
  2. In the left-side navigation pane, choose O&M and Monitoring > Idle Instance.

  3. In the upper-right corner of the Idle Instance page, click Set Alert for Idle Status.

  4. In the Set Alert for Idle Status dialog box, find Elastic IP Addresses, turn on the switch in the Alert for Idle Status column, and then configure the Idle Duration (Day) parameter.

You can set the Idle Duration (Day) parameter to only an integer that ranges from 7 to 30. For example, if you set this parameter to 7 and an EIP remains idle for more than seven days, the system sends a notification to you.
