Last Updated:Mar 20, 2023

This topic describes the cause of the following issue and how to resolve the issue: You are prompted with the 812 error code when you connect to a virtual private network (VPN) from a Windows Server 2008 instance.

Problem description

When you connect to a VPN from an Elastic Compute Service (ECS) instance that runs Windows Server 2008, the 812 error code appears.

Cause

In the properties of the user that you used to connect to the VPN, Network Access Permission is set to Control access through NPS Network Policy.

Solution

Log on to the instance. View the properties of your user in Local User and Group Management, or enter lusrmgr.msc in the Run dialog box. Click the Dial-in tab and set Network Access Permission to Allow access. Then, you can connect to the VPN from the instance.
