:Subscribe to notifications

Last Updated:Nov 22, 2024

Private DNS can send two types of notifications: operation notifications and throttling alert notifications. This topic describes how to subscribe to these notifications.

Subscribe to operation notifications

Scenarios

  • User-defined zone deletion

  • User-defined zone association and disassociation from virtual private clouds (VPCs)

  • Domain Name System (DNS) record deletion

  • DNS record modification

  • DNS record disabling

    Important
    • A notification is not sent when a user-defined zone is added or a DNS record is enabled.

    • A notification is not sent if multiple DNS records are modified at the same time in form editor mode or visual editor mode. For more information, see the Method 1 section of the Modify DNS records topic. A notification is sent if a DNS record is modified based on the instructions described in the Method 2 section of the Modify DNS records topic.

Procedure

  1. Log on to the Alibaba Cloud DNS console.

  2. In the top navigation bar, click the Message Settings icon to go to the Message Center console.image

  3. In the left-side navigation pane, choose Message Settings and Common Settings. Then, select Alibaba Cloud DNS Operation Notifications.image

    Important
    • You can select other types of notifications based on your business requirements, such as notifications on overdue payments or instance release upon expiration.

    • You can also configure notification methods in the Message Center console. Supported methods include internal messages, emails, and text messages. You can select the text message notification method only on the Alibaba Cloud China site.

    • To change a notification contact, find the desired notification type and click Modify in the Contact column.

Throttling alert notification

Private DNS imposes upper limits on the DNS requests initiated by terminals such as Elastic Compute Service (ECS) instances and elastic container instances in VPCs.

Item

QPS

Threshold for the total number of DNS requests initiated by an ECS instance in a VPC

5,000

Threshold for the number of external recursive DNS requests initiated by an ECS instance in a VPC

600

Threshold for the total number of DNS requests in a VPC

No limit

Threshold for the total number of external recursive DNS requests in a VPC

5,000

When the upper limits are exceeded, throttling is triggered. You can receive throttling alert notifications by using the following two methods:

  • Method 1: Enable the traffic analysis feature of Private DNS and view the throttling alert history in the Events of QPS exceeds threshold section on the Global Traffic (for Terminals) tab of the Private DNS (PrivateZone) page. For more information, see Global traffic analysis.

  • Method 2: Configure event subscription policies in the CloudMonitor console to send notifications to corresponding contacts when throttling is triggered. The following section describes how to configure an event subscription policy in the CloudMonitor console.

Procedure

  1. Log on to the CloudMonitor console.

  2. In the left-side navigation pane, choose Event Center and Event Subscription.

  3. On the Subscription Policy tab, click Create Subscription Policy.

  4. Configure the required parameters and click Submit.image

Important

You can configure alert contacts. In the Notification section, click the Notification Configuration drop-down list and click Create Notification Configuration. The alert contact groups configured in the CloudMonitor console are displayed in the Contact Group drop-down list. For more information, see Manage notification configurations.
