Dedicated Host:Expiration and overdue payments

Last Updated:Aug 28, 2024

This topic describes the expiration and overdue payments of a dedicated host and the Elastic Compute Service (ECS) instances deployed on the dedicated host.

Background information

Warning

You will be notified if your resources are about to be out of service due to expiration or an overdue payment. To ensure service continuity, renew your resources or top up your account at the earliest opportunity.

Expiration

The following table describes the expiration of a dedicated host and the ECS instances deployed on the dedicated host.

Note

Before an ECS instance is automatically released, you can migrate the ECS instance and its resources to another subscription dedicated host. For more information, see Migrate an ECS instance between dedicated hosts.

The status of expired resources varies based on whether auto-renewal is enabled.

  • The following table describes the resource status changes if auto renewal is not enabled.

    Resource

Within 15 days after the host expires

More than 15 days after the host expires

    Dedicated host

The dedicated host is shut down at any time from 00:00:00 of the expiration date to 00:00:00 of the following day.

    The dedicated host is released.

    ECS instance (vCPU and memory)

ECS instances are automatically stopped after the dedicated host is stopped.

All ECS instances on the dedicated host are released. Related data is lost and cannot be recovered.

Additional ECS resources, such as images, disks, public bandwidth, and snapshots

    See Overdue payments.

  • The following table describes the resource status changes if auto-renewal is enabled but the renewal fee fails to be deducted within the grace period.

More than 15 days after the host expires

More than 30 days after the host expires

    Dedicated host

The dedicated host works as expected.

Overdue payments

Note
  • If you have overdue payments in your account, the system may prevent you from settling other orders until the overdue amount is paid. Alternatively, the system may automatically deduct the overdue amount first when you attempt to settle the payments for other orders.

  • If your resources are released due to an overdue payment, you will be notified by text messages and emails.

Cause of overdue payments

The fees of pay-as-you-go resources are calculated on an hourly basis. Make sure that you have a sufficient balance in your Alibaba Cloud account. Otherwise, the payment becomes overdue, and Alibaba Cloud sends you a notification. We recommend that you complete your payment at the earliest opportunity to prevent impacts on your business due to stopped or released resources.

Impact of overdue payments

  • Subscription:

    • For information about the resource status changes of an expired subscription dedicated host, see Expiration.

To continue using the dedicated host, you must settle overdue payments and then renew your subscription. For more information, see Manually renew a dedicated host.

    • The following table describes the impact of overdue payments on a subscription dedicated host that has not expired.

      Resource

      Impact

      Dedicated host

The dedicated host works as expected before expiration.

      ECS instance (vCPU and memory)

The ECS instances work as expected before expiration.

You already paid for the vCPU, memory, and local SSDs (optional) of the ECS instances when you created the dedicated host. Therefore, the status of the instances is the same as that of the dedicated host.

      Image

For information about impacts on images, see Overdue payments

      Disk

For information about impacts on disks, see Overdue payments

      Public bandwidth

For information about impacts on public bandwidth, see Overdue payments

      Snapshot

For information about impacts on snapshots, see Snapshots.

  • Pay-as-you-go: If the balance including cash, vouchers, and coupons in your Alibaba Cloud account is insufficient to settle a bill, your account has an overdue payment. If you do not top up or fail to top up your account within the grace period, your resources become unavailable. The following table describes the impacts of an overdue payment on resources.

    Resource

Within 15 days after a payment becomes overdue

More than 15 days after a payment becomes overdue

    Dedicated host

The dedicated host is shut down at any time from 00:00:00 of the date when a payment becomes overdue to 00:00:00 of the following day.

    The dedicated host is released.

    ECS instance (vCPU and memory)

ECS instances are automatically stopped after the dedicated host is stopped. In this case, you can migrate the ECS instances to another dedicated host. For more information, see Migrate an ECS instance between dedicated hosts.

All ECS instances on the dedicated host are released. The related data is lost and cannot be recovered.
