Edge Security Acceleration:Scenario policies

Last Updated:Sep 19, 2024

Your website anticipates much higher traffic than usual during major events such as new game launching and e-commerce promotions. In this case, you can create scenario policies to apply the Major Events template. This template automatically adjusts anti-DDoS protection policies during major events to prevent blocking normal requests.

Usage notes

  • Scenario policies are only available for websites that use Enterprise plans.

  • If you apply a standard DDoS mitigation policy during a major event, normal requests may be blocked. The Major Events template enables the automatic adjustment of anti-DDoS policies based on the following logic:

    • When a major event begins, the Major Events template takes effect by recording the Global Mitigation Policies settings and the Smart HTTP Flood Protection settings and turning off both switches.

    • When the major event ends, the template turns on the switches again and restores the Global Mitigation Policies parameter and the Smart HTTP Flood Protection parameter to previous settings.

  • You can create up to 10 scenario policies in each Alibaba Cloud account.

Create a scenario policy

  1. Log on to the ESA console.

  2. In the left-side navigation pane, choose Global Settings > Scenario Policies.

  3. On the Scenario Policies page, click Create Scenario Policy and configure parameters based on your business requirements.

    Parameter

    Description

    Policy Name

The name of the custom policy. The name can contain letters, digits, underscores (_), and hyphens (-).

    Policy Template

The default value is Major Events, which is suitable for traffic surge scenarios such as new game launching and e-commerce promotions.

    Effective Period

The validity period of the policy. The effective periods of multiple scenario policies cannot overlap.

    Associated Websites

The websites for which you create the policy. You can specify only websites that use Enterprise plans.

  4. Click OK.

This policy is automatically enabled once created. You can view the policy on the Scenario Policies page and check the Status column of the policy to determine whether the policy is in effect. A policy may have the following states:

    • Pending Enabled: The policy does not take effect. The current time is earlier than the start time of the specified validity period.

    • Enabled: The policy is in effect. The current time is within the specified validity period.

    • Expired: The policy has expired. The current time is later than the specified validity period.

    • Disabled: The policy is disabled. The policy does not take effect even if the current time is within the specified validity period.
