The status of cloud resources directly affects the applications that are built on them and the businesses they support. Implementing full resource monitoring is the basis and key to ensuring business continuity. Configuring alert rules for cloud resources is a basic and necessary method to monitor cloud resources. If no alert rule is configured for a cloud resource, the cloud resource requires attention and governance.
You can use one or more of the following methods to monitor and manage the resources within your account:
Initiative alerting
If you are unfamiliar with the metrics or alert thresholds of a cloud service, use this method for governance.
After you enable the initiative alert feature, we recommend that you focus on the alerts and resource usage of the cloud service. This way, you can improve alert rules or optimize alert thresholds based on your resource usage.
You can enable the initiative alert feature for a cloud service to easily configure preset alert rules for all resources of the cloud service. For more information, see Enable the initiative alert feature.
Resource-specific alerting
You can use this method for resource governance if your existing resources are relatively fixed or the number of resources is small, or the use scenarios and usage levels of resources vary significantly.
You can configure different alert rules for resources to monitor the resources. For more information, see Create an alert rule.
Application group-based alerting
If you have a large number of resources, the number of resources changes frequently, or multiple groups of resources support different applications, we recommend that you preferentially use application groups for resource monitoring and management.
You can create application groups and set alert rules for resources based on the application groups to implement full resource monitoring.
You can directly create an alert rule for an application group or configure an alert template to reuse and unify alert rules for multiple application groups. The following section describes the methods:
Create a threshold-triggered alert rule for an application group.
For more information, see Create an application group and Create an alert rule.
Create an alert template and apply it to application groups.
For more information, see Create an application group and Create an alert template.
