As enterprises migrate their data to the cloud, the types and quantity of resources on the cloud continue to increase, and resources are changing frequently. How to monitor the frequently changing large-scale resources has gradually become a challenge that enterprises have to face after their data is migrated to the cloud. You can use tags or resource groups to create application groups and dynamically allocate resources to different application groups. This way, you can transform monitored objects from resources to application groups. This helps you monitor frequently changing large-scale resources. You can also create alert templates and apply the templates to different application groups, managing alert rules in a centralized manner.
Prerequisites
Resources are available and tags or resource groups are specified for the resources.
Step 1: Create an application group
After you create an application group by using tags or resource groups, resources that meet the conditions are automatically added to the application group. Then, you can manage resources by application group.
Log on to the CloudMonitor console.
In the left-side navigation pane, choose
.On the Application Groups tab, click Create Application Group.
In the Create Application Group panel, select Create Based on Tags or Create from Resource Group for Creation Method, and configure the parameters of the application group.
For more information about how to configure the parameters of an application group, see Create an application group based on tags or Create an application group from a resource group.
NoteIf tags are attached to your resources, you can create an application group based on the tags. If your resources are added to a resource group, you can create an application group based on the resource group.
Click OK.
On the Group Overview page, you can view the basic information and associated cloud services of the application group.
Step 2: View the monitoring data of the resources in the application group
After you create an application group in Step 1, the resources that meet the conditions are automatically added to the application group. You can view the monitoring data of the resources in the application group.
In the left-side navigation pane, click Dashboards.
Click the tab of the cloud service whose monitoring data you want to view, and specify the time for viewing the data.
You can view the monitoring charts for the metrics of the cloud service.
Step 3: Create an alert template and apply it to the application group
After you apply an alert template to an application group, CloudMonitor automatically creates alert rules based on the alert template.
In the left-side navigation pane, choose
.On the Alert Templates page, click Create Alert Template.
In the Create Alert Template panel, enter a name for the alert template, select an Alibaba Cloud service, and then configure the parameters of the metric template.
For more information about how to configure the parameters of a metric template, see Create an alert template.
Click OK.
In the Alert Template Created/Modified message, click Confirm.
In the Apply Templates to Groups dialog box, select the application group that you created in Step 1. Retain the default settings for other parameters.
Click OK.
In the Apply Templates to Groups message, click Confirm.
The alert template is applied to the application group. The process of alert rule creation requires a few minutes to complete.
Step 4: View the resources for which alerts are triggered
You can view the number of the resources for which alerts are triggered and the alert history by application group.
In the left-side navigation pane, choose
.On the Application Groups tab of the Alerts page, view the number of the resources for which alerts are triggered by application group.
