Merge resources

This topic describes the scenarios in which resources need to be merged and how to merge resources in Cloud Migration Hub (CMH).

Resource identifier

When you import resource information to CMH by using a survey template or an automatic collection tool, CMH assigns each resource an identifier. In general, an identifier can be an IP address, a domain name, or an instance ID that you use during the resource survey. Resource identifiers are important for associating resources with migration tasks.

Associate resources with migration tasks

When CMH associates a migration task with a resource in CMH, CMH parses the resource and the corresponding resource identifier based on the information about the migration source in the migration task. If the resource identifier matches a resource in the resource list in CMH, the resource and the migration task are associated. If the resource identifier matches no resource in the resource list, CMH generates a resource by default for the migration source in the migration task.

Merge duplicate resources

For example, Resource R has two IP addresses: A and B. IP Address A is a private IP address, and IP Address B is a public IP address. If you record IP Address A for Resource R during the resource survey, CMH uses IP Address A as the identifier of Resource R by default. However, if the migration source uses IP Address B in the migration task that you create in Server Migration Center (SMC), CMH generates Resource R' whose identifier is IP Address B. CMH cannot identify that Resources R and R' refer to the same resource. In this case, you must manually merge the resources.

Procedure

Log on to the CMH console. In the left-side navigation pane, choose Discovery > Resource list. On the Resource list page, select Resources R and R' and click Merge resources. CMH merges each attribute of the selected resources.
