ApsaraMQ for Kafka:How does the topic quota change when additional partitions are purchased?

Last Updated:Mar 11, 2026

On an ApsaraMQ for Kafka instance, the topic quota equals the total number of partitions. Purchasing additional partitions increases both the partition count and the topic quota by the same amount.

Topic quota formula

Each traffic specification includes a fixed number of free partitions. The topic quota is calculated as follows:

Topic quota = Total partitions = Free partitions + Purchased partitions

Example

An instance with the alikafka.hw.2xlarge traffic specification includes 1,000 free partitions. If you purchase 50 additional partitions, the total becomes 1,050, and the topic quota is also 1,050.

ItemCount
Free partitions (from alikafka.hw.2xlarge)1,000
Purchased partitions50
Total partitions (= topic quota)1,050

Increase the topic quota

To increase the topic quota, purchase additional partitions by upgrading your instance. For more information, see Upgrade instance configurations.
