A migration instance contains the computing resources for data migration and synchronization
from the source to the destination, and for file storage. This topic describes how
to purchase and release a migration instance.
Purchase a migration instance
A migration instance stores data and handles data migration and synchronization from
the source to the destination. You must purchase a data migration instance before
you create a data migration or synchronization project.
- Optional:Grant the data transmission feature the permissions to access cloud resources.
If you have already granted the required permissions, skip this step.
- Log on to the ApsaraDB for OceanBase console by using an Alibaba Cloud account.
- In the left-side navigation pane, expand Data Transmission and go to a navigation page.
- Click Grant Privileges to RAM Role as prompted.
- Confirm the information on the page and click Agree.
- Refresh the Data Transmission page.
- In the left-side navigation pane of the ApsaraDB for OceanBase console, choose .
- On the Migration Instances page, click Purchase Instance in the upper-right corner.
- On the purchase page that appears, configure the parameters.

The region of the instance. The region cannot be changed after you purchase the instance.

The type of the data source from which the data is migrated or synchronized. |
Destination Type |
The type of the data source that receives data from the source. |
Specification |
Valid values: Small, Medium, Large, and Xlarge. |
Quantity |
The number of instances you want to purchase, which is equal to the number of data
migration or synchronization projects. By default, one instance is purchased.

- After you confirm the configuration, click Buy Now.
- On the Confirm Order page, select I have read and agree to OceanBase data transmission Agreement of Service next to Terms of Service, and then click Activate Now.
It takes about 1 to 3 minutes to create a migration instance. After you create a migration
instance, you can view the instance information in the following columns on the Migration Instances page: Instance Name/ID, Project Name, Specification, Status, Created At, and Region. You can also move the pointer over the instance name and click the Edit icon to change the instance name. Then, click OK.
Release a migration instance
The data transmission feature allows you to manually release a migration instance
that is not bound with a project.
- In the left-side navigation pane of the ApsaraDB for OceanBase console, choose .
- On the Migration Instances page, click Release in the Actions column of the target migration instance.
- Confirm the information and click OK in the dialog box that appears.
The released instance is no longer displayed in the migration instance drop-down list
when you create a migration or synchronization project.
