DataWorks:Business assets and asset health

Last Updated:Apr 01, 2025

Data Asset Governance of DataWorks allows you to manage the health status of business assets and perform usage analysis on business assets, including tables and tasks. Data Asset Governance also allows you to use tags to manage business information. This helps you learn about the health status of your business assets and resolve issues related to business assets at the earliest opportunity.

Important

The business asset management and asset health features are in the beta version. The features will be continuously improved and upgraded.

Required permissions

  • To govern all asset issues, you must have one of the following permissions:

    • An Alibaba Cloud account

    • A Resource Access Management (RAM) user who has the AliyunDataWorksFullAccess policy

    • A tenant administrator

    • A tenant-level data governance administrator

  • Other users can govern issues that occur only on their own business assets.

Go to the Asset Health page

  1. Go to the Data Asset Governance page.

Log on to the DataWorks console. In the top navigation bar, select the desired region. In the left-side navigation pane, choose Data Governance > Data Asset Governance. On the page that appears, click Go to Data Asset Governance.

  2. In the left-side navigation pane, choose Assets > Asset Health.

    Note

You can view asset health status from different dimensions, such as Health Status of Business Assets and Team Asset Health.

    • Health Status of Business Assets: displays statistics of all assets that have a custom or system tag.

    • Team Asset Health: displays health analysis and governance leaderboards of team assets from the following dimensions: Global, Workspace, and Individual.

Tag-based asset analysis and governance procedure

Step 1: Create custom tags

You can use custom tags to distinguish the content, source, and applicable field of business assets based on your business requirements. Tags help you clarify the business meanings of data. For example, you can create a custom tag named "operations application: order analysis".

  1. On the Asset Health page, click Manage Business Tags.

  2. On the Define Tag page, view the custom tags and system tags on the Custom Tag and System Tag tabs. You can click Add Tag on the Custom Tag tab to create custom tags.

    Note

For information about system tags and how to create custom tags, see Manage tags.

Step 2: Add tags to business assets

Tags are used to categorize assets, which helps users easily locate data in specific fields and assists managers in summarizing and analyzing business assets.

Note

The tag management feature of DataWorks allows you to add tags to multiple types of business assets. However, Data Asset Governance can display only scheduling tasks, MaxCompute tables, E-MapReduce (EMR) tables, and Hologres tables to which tags are added. For information about the asset types that are supported by the tag management feature, see Manage tags.

  1. In the left-side navigation pane, choose Assets > Business Asset and select the scope of assets that you want to manage.

    • All: all tables and scheduling tasks in the current region.

    • Managed by Me: tables and scheduling tasks on which the current logon account has governance permissions.

    • Owned by Me: tables and scheduling tasks whose owners are the current logon account.

  2. Configure the following filter conditions to search for assets to which you want to add tags: Asset ID/Name, Tag, Owner, Asset Type, and Governance Status.

  3. Add tags to business assets.

    • Add tags to a single business asset: Find the asset and click the image icon in the Tag column. In the message that appears, click Edit to go to the Modify Tag dialog box.

    • Add tags to multiple business assets at a time: Select the business assets to which you want to add tags and click Configure Tag in the lower part of the Business Asset page to go to the Batch Modify Tags dialog box.

You can add tags to business assets, change the values of existing tags, or click the image icon to remove tags from business assets in the dialog box that appears.

    Note
    • You can add a maximum of 20 tags to a business asset, and each tag key must be unique.

    • You cannot change the values of system tags or remove system tags from business assets. If a governance issue detected on a business asset with a system tag based on a specific governance item is handled and the system does not find the governance issue on the business asset the next day, the system automatically removes the system tag from the business asset.

Step 3: View the health status of business assets

After you add tags to business assets, you can choose Assets > Asset Health in the left-side navigation pane to view the asset health status on the Asset Health page.

    • If you want to perform graceful undeployment on multiple business assets at a time, you must select business assets that belong to the same workspace and use the same data source. Otherwise, the graceful unemployment operation fails.
