Overview
Movie, game, and animation studios that provide creative services, such as visual effects (VFX), are facing challenges on the quality, speed, and security for content rendering, especially while working remotely on post-production projects during the pandemic.
Alibaba Cloud Remote Rendering solution helps studios bring the on-premises render farms to the cloud with Alibaba Cloud’s powerful E-HPC capabilities with high elasticity and low total cost of ownership (TCO). You can integrate Alibaba Cloud’s rendering services with your existing toolkit, such as Deadline and PipelineFX Qube, and applications, such as Houdini, Arnold, and RedShift.
Solution Highlights
-
High Speed Rendering
Improve the computing throughput by up to 24M Packet per Second (PPS) and 600K Input/Output Operations per Second (IOPS) and enhance the overall rendering performance by up to 40%
-
Robust Elasticity and Scalability
Allocate and release render instances and clusters automatically according to real-time workload demands without capacity and computing power limitations
-
Remote Workstation
Provide rendering services for different types of workloads by choosing scenario-based ECS and EGPU instance types with high-performance CPUs and GPUs to meet business requirements
-
Easy Interoperability
Integrate with third-party render applications and scheduling platforms, such as Houdini, Arnold, RedShift, Deadline, and Pipeline FX Qube, and manage the complete cloud environment on a centralized Alibaba Cloud console
-
Secured Rendering Service
Prevent data leaks and protect user data and privacy with ECS that offers an industry-leading availability of over 99.9% and advanced security measures from EDS
-
Low TCO
Reduce TCO for initial investment and maintenance cost of high-performance render farm infrastructure, including servers and data centers
How It Works
Our Solution
Alibaba Cloud Remote Rendering solution enables VFX studios to complete complicated rendering jobs on powerful cloud computing clusters with super-fast connections and high elasticity. You can synchronize data between on-premises render farms with Alibaba Cloud at high speeds through a leased line or VPN, or connect to the render clusters and cloud data storage directly. Then, the E-HPC cache layer caches the active data stored on NAS and OSS to avoid frequent data access to on-premises NAS storage. You can choose the EGPU clusters for render applications, such as Redshift, or ECS clusters for render applications, such as Houdini and Arnold. These render clusters can be integrated with the rendering schedular toolkit, such as Deadline and PipelineFX Qube, to boost efficiency. E-HPC can dynamically scale the number of nodes and clusters automatically according to real-time workload demands while running other jobs. The rendering jobs will be submitted to EDS instances with the GPU-accelerated desktop service as the remote post-production workstation. During the rendering process, ECS and EDS provide highly reliable data storage and effective protection, such as encrypted remote protocols, to prevent data leaks.
