About Detikcom
Detikcom (stylized as detikcom) is an Indonesian digital media company owned by CT Corp subsidiary Trans Media. Detikcom is an online news portal and publishes breaking news. The portal is consistently ranked among Indonesia's 10 most-visited websites and is among the top 250 in the world. It receives approximately 180 million visits per day.
In 2019, Detikcom expanded into a media group called Detik Network, which consists of CNN Indonesia, CNBC Indonesia, HaiBunda, Female Daily, Beautynesia, and InsertLive.
Challenge
Detik Network has 5 different business units, some of which have been suffering from DDoS attacks that last for hours. These attacks have been consuming their bandwidth and rendering their news portal websites inaccessible. Detik Network needed a solid solution that can handle massive amounts of DDoS attacks.
However, Detik Network faced insurmountable challenges in finding the right solution to handle DDoS attacks. The group needed a reputable vendor with local presence in Indonesia that can equip them with the necessary tools to protect their news portals. Most of the local vendors were unable to handle such large attacks, and thus limiting their option.
Why Alibaba Cloud
Detikcom needed the attacks to be stopped without affecting their business. The solution needed to have very low latency for users that are located mostly in Indonesia, and also be capable of providing connectivity to millions of viewers daily.
Alibaba Cloud's unparalleled track record in Mainland China for its suite of security solutions impressed Detikcom. Furthermore, Alibaba Cloud's local presence in Indonesia allowed Detikcom to overcome the challenges related to network latency. Alibaba Cloud's dedicated team has worked closely with Detikcom to develop a comprehensive solution for their DDoS attacks.
Architecture
Detikcom leveraged Alibaba Cloud's Anti-DDoS Premium service to cope with the incessant attacks on their news portals, which are hosted across local IDCs and Alibaba Cloud servers.
All domain access are directed to the Alibaba Cloud Anti-DDoS Premium endpoint, which acts as a scrubbing center. Requests are filtered for its signature, in order to identify and filter legitimate requests from DDoS attacks. Once filtered, legitimate requests would then be relayed to the respective servers. This solution ensures that the requests coming to the origin servers are clean.
Anti-DDoS Premium can mitigate a minimum of 2 Tbit/s of DDoS attacks outside mainland China, providing 300 Mbit/s of clean bandwidth. Because of this, there are no disruptions to Detikcom services even when facing attacks.
