CHiNOY TV
CHiNOY TV is a multimedia company targeting the Chinese-Filipino community with a strong presence on major social media platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, TikTok, Youtube, Spotify and Wechat, and its own website, CHiNOY TV Online (www.chinoy.tv). In 2021, it launched a campaign titled #1CH1NOY, which aims to promote oneness among the Chinoy, Filipino and Chinese communities, strengthening the Chinoy identity through the launch of the 30-minute documentary series on CNN PH entitled Chinese by Blood, Filipino by Heart. Over the course of four seasons, the show had a steady viewership, with the average episode achieving almost up to a million reach, and the average time spent by viewers being 12 to 15 minutes which shows strong and consistent viewers. CHiNOY TV also consistently ranked as the 1st spot among CNN Philippines programs aired during Sundays and the 2nd spot during the Saturday replays.
Challenges
Cloud technology adoption has been limited in the Philippines, but CHiNOY TV, a multimedia company, is committed to leveraging innovation to strengthen our growth. In Q1 2023, CHiNOY TV partnered with Materia Logic to embrace cloud technology for its digital transformation.
CHiNOY TV's first step to innovation to focus on building out production capabilities using Alibaba Cloud. Throughout the traditional production process, there is friction at multiple touchpoints in the production cycle from media transportation to transformation. These challenges have taken a toll on internal communication and efficient production management, leaving no margin for error in this highly competitive landscape.
To continue its innovation journey, CHiNOY TV's second critical step was to mitigate the risk of data loss for its valuable media assets. With the robust capabilities of Alibaba Cloud, CHiNOY TV dedicated itself to ensuring the utmost safety and security of all its media assets.
Ultimately, by implementing Alibaba Cloud technology, CHiNOY TV, in collaboration with Materia Logic, paved the road for a streamlined growth in the digital space.
Solutions
CHiNOY TV has successfully migrated all its existing assets from on-premises systems to the cloud using Alibaba Cloud Object Storage Services (OSS). With the guidance of Alibaba Cloud’s partner, Materia Logic, CHiNOY TV explored various cloud platforms and assessed factors like latency and ease of use, Alibaba Cloud emerged as the standout choice, notably because of its data center presence in the Philippines. With a robust and reliable infrastructure, Alibaba Cloud's data centers can maintain consistent performance levels, even during peak demands, helping to prevent latency spikes and buffering for CHiNOY TV‘s users. Also Alibaba Cloud’s data center offers scalable and elastic computing resources that can quickly adapt to changes in demand, ensuring that high traffic events do not affect the latency or availability of media content.
By implementing LucidLink in conjunction with Alibaba Cloud OSS, CHiNOY TV achieved a remarkable reduction in its production cycle, shrinking it from weeks to mere days. Gone are the days when its editors had to wait for data transportation over extended periods. Now, within hours, its editors have access to freshly filmed footage, ready for seamless editing. During the production of its show, 'Chinese by Blood, Filipino by Heart,' CHiNOY TV implemented this new production process, and it proved to be an enormous success. Meanwhile, OSS provides multi-class storage options. This allows CHiNOY TV to optimize its storage strategies based on how frequently data needs to be accessed. This enables precise cost control by aligning storage costs with data utility.
Looking Forward
From Oct to Dec 2023, CHiNOY TV produced the 5th season of "Chinese by Blood, Filipino by Heart" as well as the 10th Anniversary celebration of the "Mr and Ms Chinatown". CHiNOY TV took full advantage of its new production capabilities, which significantly shortened timeline and enhanced the quality of shows. CHiNOY TV is thrilled to share these exciting developments with everyone. In the future, CHiNOY TV will also be exploring the migration of its internal systems onto Alibaba Cloud, with the hope of leveraging more of Alibaba Cloud's global data centers. This move is aimed at further reducing latency, ensuring high availability of content, and enhancing the overall experience for audience. CHiNOY TV looks forward to reaping the benefits of Alibaba Cloud's robust infrastructure in its continued pursuit of excellence in media production.
