Virtual cloud servers are the cornerstone of any cloud architecture and choosing the correct type for your use case is key to realizing your ambitions. Alibaba Cloud offers cloud servers that are more convenient and efficient than physical servers through an IaaS-level service called Elastic Compute Service (ECS),allowing your business to run workloads in a scalable, elastic, high-performance environment. A range of ECS instance families and types are now available at discounts of up to 95% in Australia, for a limited time, with conditions applied.
ECS features several points of difference with compute services offered by other public cloud providers, including a world-leading service level agreement that guarantees 99.975% availability for individual instances and 99.995% availability for cross-zone, multi-instance setups, and the ability to combine ECS instances with Alibaba Cloud services to achieve a range of cost and service availability benefits. ECS instances support the scenarios detailed below -- and more.
But how do you choose the right Alibaba Cloud ECS instance family and type for your business scenarios? The guide below shows you how to make the correct selection from the instance families available during the sale -- and take the next step on your cloud journey.
The ECS T5 burstable instance-type family -- with discounted instance sizes ranging from ecs.t5-lc2m1.nano with single--core CPU and 512M memory to ecs.t5-c1m4.xlarge with four cores and 16GB memory – features burstable instances designed to meet demand for high performance on an infrequent basis, and are well suited for Australian businesses looking to run web application servers, lightweight applications and microservices, low-to-mid-sized databases, and for development and testing scenarios. These instances are available from $0.43 per month to $7.22 per month during the Biggest Sale of the Year promotion.
The ECS C5 (compute-optimized) instance-type family -- with discounts available for instance sizes ranging from ecs.c5.large with two cores and 4GB memory to ecs.c5.xlarge with four cores and 8GB memory -- is optimized for scenarios that require the receipt and transmission of large volumes of packets, such as on-screen video comments and telecom data forwarding and web front end servers. Australian businesses that need to run front end servers of massively multiplayer online (MMO) games, undertake data analysis, batch processing and video encoding; or run high performance scientific and engineering applications may also consider using C5 family instances. In particular, businesses looking to run Apache and Nginx web servers may consider C5 instances as optimal for their requirements. The ecs.c5.large instance is available from $4.66 per month and the ecs.c5.xlarge instance from $9.22 per month during the sale.
Alibaba Cloud has also provided discounts for two instances in the ECS G5 (general purpose) instance-type family -- the ecs.g5.large with two cores and 8GB memory to ecs.g5.xlarge with 4 cores and 16GB memory. This instance family also supports scenarios involving the receipt and transmission of large volumes of packets, such as on-screen video comments and telecommunications data forwarding, as well as enterprise-level applications of various types and sizes. Australian businesses looking to run small and medium database systems, caches and search clusters; data analysis and computing; and computing clusters and memory-intensive data processing may also consider G5 instances.
The G5 family is optimal for Australian businesses to run SpringCloud, Dubbo or WebSphere middleware and JBoss, TomCat or Jetty applications, as well as small-to-medium sized relational or NoSQL databases, distributed-cache with medium memory usage and ElasticSearch small clusters that rely on disks to ensure high data availability. The ecs.g5 large instance is available from $5.86 per month during the promotion, and the ecs.g5.xlarge from $11.62 per month.
Deep discounts are also available to Australian organizations for instance types from the ECS R5 (memory-optimized) family -- from ecs.r5.large with two cores and 16GB of memory to ecs.r5.xlarge with four cores and 32GB of memory. This instance family enables Australian businesses to run systems that require the receipt and transmission of large volumes of packets, such as on-screen video comments and telecom data forwarding. They may also use R5 instances to run high-performance databases and in-memory databases; power data analysis, data mining and distributed memory caching, and run enterprise-level, memory-intensive applications such as Hadoop clusters and Spark clusters. Alibaba Cloud recommends these instances for memory-optimized Redis or Memcache caches, high performance relational and NoSQL databases and distributed caches requiring high memory usage. These instances are available from $6.73 per month for the ecs.r5.large instance to $13.35 per month for the ecs.r5.xlarge instance during the sale.
Australian businesses can also take advantage of deep discounts to use an instance from the c6e family that shifts a range of virtualization features to dedicated hardware with 3rd-gen SHENLONG architecture to instance to provide predictable, consistent high performance and reduce virtualization overheads. This instance family utilizes the fast path acceleration feature of chips to improve storage performance, network performance, and computing stability by an order of magnitude. As well as scenarios involving the receipt and transmission of large packet volumes such as on-screen video comments and telecommunications data forwarding, businesses can use c6e instances to run web and MMO game servers, data analysis, batch processing and video encoding workloads and high-performance scientific and engineering applications. The c6e instance with two cores and 4GB memory is available from $207.69/6 for a limited time through the promotion.
Deep discounts are also available for this instance family, ranging from the ecs.sn1ne.large instance with two cores and 4GB of memory to the ecs.sn2ne.xlarge instance with four cores and 16GB of memory. The instances support the receipt and transmission of large volumes of packets, such as on-screen video comments and telecom data forwarding, web frontend servers, front end servers of MMO games, data analysis, batch processing, and video encoding, and high-performance scientific and engineering applications. These instances are available from $2.79 to $6.13 per month.
Alibaba Cloud ECS provides a robust, cost-effective compute platform for Australian businesses to spark their cloud journey and build into the use of additional cloud products and services to innovate and generate efficiencies. The Biggest Sale of the Year promotion provides an unprecedented opportunity for businesses to select the instance types that power their specific workloads and scenarios most efficiently.
