Sabah Credit Corporation Expands Collaboration with Alibaba Cloud through Super App Integration

Trusted cloud service provider empowers Sabah's digital economy to enhance financial services and user convenience.

Sabah, 9 November 2023 — Sabah Credit Corporation (SCC), a statutory body fully owned by the Sabah State Government, today announced its extended collaboration with Alibaba Cloud, the digital technology and intelligence backbone of Alibaba Group, through the unveiling of a financial Super App to strengthen its digitalization and provide seamless experience for Sabah’s customers.

The updated Super App, called YONO, is Sabah’s revolutionary financial app that facilitates various functions including easy financing applications, instant loans approval and e-wallet for both consumers and businesses. It is powered by Alibaba Cloud’s Enterprise Mobile Application Studio (EMAS) Super App solution, a full-stack platform for building Super Apps and related ecosystems.

Leveraging the EMAS platform, SCC is able to consolidate all three applications - YONO Finance (SCC’s core financing app), Sabah Pay, and YONOPay (consumers’ e-wallet) - under this platform into a single mobile touchpoint. This will, for instance, enable SCC to reduce technical obstacles and speed up time-to-market for its Super App development, collaborate with third-party partners seamlessly to create mini-app, efficiently manage mini-app lifecycles at minimal cost through centralised app management.

YB Datuk Seri Panglima Haji Masidi Manjun, Finance Minister of Sabah, hands over the technical strategic partner certificate to Kun Huang, General Manager of Malaysia at Alibaba Cloud Intelligence, witnessed by George Taitim Tulas, CEO of Sabah Credit Corporation and Datuk Seri Panglima Dr. Yee Moh Chai, Chairman of Sabah Credit Corporation.

George Taitim Tulas, CEO of Sabah Credit Corporation (SCC) , said: “We are committed to empowering users to stay ahead across the ever-changing financial landscape with Alibaba Cloud’s proven technology. With Sabah Pay's success as our foundation, we're determined to take this partnership to new heights.”

Alibaba Cloud has been working closely with SCC since 2020 for Sabah Pay, SCC’s very own payment aggregator to ease the payment to government departments and agencies. It has offered its Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS) to host the Sabah Pay.

Kun Huang, General Manager of Malaysia, Alibaba Cloud Intelligence, said: “The potential for super apps, especially those built with the EMAS Super App ecosystem, is here to unlock infinite business possibilities and bring a seamless experience for users to life. Leveraging Alibaba Cloud’s proven technology and cloud infrastructure, we are confident that our collaboration with Sabah Credit Corporation will help accelerate Sabah’s contribution towards realising the aspirations of the state and the country.”

This collaboration also marks the first EMAS Super App framework deployment for the Malaysia State government agency. The solution, which debuted locally last June, provides various capabilities to help enterprises build a super app with a rich ecosystem, including components for app infrastructure and business features, containers for running mini-apps, and platforms for mini-app development and operation easily and safely.

The freshly inked partnership is yet another demonstration of Alibaba Cloud’s long-term commitment to empowering Malaysia financial services institutions (FSIs) of all sizes across banking, insurance, securities, and FinTech to digitize their operations. Nationwide customers in Malaysia are leveraging Alibaba Cloud's financial service solutions including Touch'n Go Digital, Permodalan Nasional Berhad (PNB) and Malacca Securities.

As one of the world’s leading cloud service providers, Alibaba Cloud boasts a network of 89 availability zones in 30 regions across the globe, offering a highly secure, scalable, robust cloud infrastructure to support global customers embracing digital innovation while keeping sustainability in mind. Alibaba Cloud is also the first global cloud provider with twin local data centres established in Malaysia since 2017 and has launched its first cloud-based Anti-DDos Scrubbing Center locally in 2018 serving the region.
