As Hong Kong speeds up its integration into the national development, more and more businesses are looking to expand in the Greater Bay Area, in Asia and beyond. In 2021, Alibaba Cloud expanded its Hong Kong and Macao Eco Alliance to become the Greater Bay Area Eco Alliance to help Hong Kong businesses transform, innovate and grow regionally. Alibaba Cloud, the digital technology and intelligence backbone of Alibaba Group, today kicked off a series of events to mark its 10th anniversary serving businesses in Hong Kong. To support Hong Kong’s development as a regional tech and innovation hub, Alibaba Cloud plans to launch an Independent Software Vendor (ISV) empowerment program in 2024, with an aim to attract 100 technology partners and help foster an ecosystem to sustain Hong Kong’s digital transformation.
Over the past decade, Alibaba Cloud has invested more than HK$10 billion in its development in Hong Kong, setting up multiple data centers, expanding its service offerings and developing local tech talent. Alibaba Cloud has recorded double digit annual revenue growth over the past three years in Hong Kong, supporting the digital transformation of over 40,000 businesses.
Since 2017, Alibaba Cloud has provided training for more than 88000 trainees and issued more than 162,000 certificates through online and offline mode. At present, Alibaba Cloud has launched cloud computing training programs in cooperation with eight universities, including the School of Economics and Management of the University of Hong Kong, the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, and the City University of Hong Kong.
In addition, Alibaba Cloud has also designed a cloud computing course for Hong Kong middle school students through cooperation with the school of professional training of the University of Hong Kong and SEED Foundation, benefiting more than 20 schools and greatly improving the digital skills of the younger generation. At the same time, Alibaba Cloud also works with local training institutions such as Kornerstone, allowing people of different ages, occupations and classes have the opportunity to explore new technologies such as cloud computing.
Provided data analytic solutions to help Hong Kong International Airport to monitor and visualize the passenger and road traffic inside the terminals and apron, achieving better resource deployment and enhanced operation efficiency.
Obtained an independent third-party certification from Price Waterhouse Coopers (PwC) for the internal governance systems of its range of cloud products and services.
Jointly developed the smart train-scheduling platform with MTR, which uses cloud technology and artificial intelligence to adjust and optimize train deployment and maintenance.
According to the report released by the leading global research and advisory firm Gartner, Alibaba Cloud had the biggest IaaS market share in Hong Kong in 2020.
In 2015, Alibaba Cloud established the first data center in Hong Kong. Alibaba Cloud currently has 89 availability zones across 30 regions globally. Alibaba Cloud has been the official Cloud Services Partner of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) since 2017. Data privacy and protection is a top priority for Alibaba Cloud. It is committed to complying with local regulations and industry standards and currently has more than 130 security and compliance accreditations worldwide.
