The public cloud platform market in China is rapidly growing and maturing. Among the eight cloud computing providers included in this 2024 Forrester Wave report, Alibaba Cloud was named a leader and achieved the highest score possible in 23 out of 32 criteria.
This Forrester Wave report comprehensively evaluates Chinese cloud computing vendors based on Strategy, Current offering, and Market presence. It is one of the most authoritative and influential third-party reports in the industry. This report meticulously examines 32-criterion evaluation across strength of current offering, strategy and market presence for cloud vendors, grouping them into four categories: Leaders, Strong Performers, Contenders, and Challengers based on their scores.
The Forrester report states that “In the cloud infrastructure domain, Alibaba Cloud has superior capabilities in compute, storage, and operations management services. In cloud development, the firm provides strong product portfolios spanning a wide range of domains, including data management, AI development, container and Kubernetes, serverless/function as a service (FaaS), application development lifecycle, modernization, IoT, and edge/hybrid management. It has developed a range of powerful genAI services, but many of them were in alpha testing during our evaluation, such as Tongyi LingMa as a TuringBot for coding, YiDa AI Copilot as genAI-powered low-code, and DataWorks Copilot as a TuringBot for SQL development”. The Forrester report goes on to state that Alibaba Cloud is ideal for firms that want comprehensive cloud and AI services and solutions in the public cloud to accelerate innovation.
Alibaba Cloud received the highest scores in both AI application services and AI development services criteria. The report states that it’s also making strategic investment to build comprehensive AI capabilities for model as a service (MaaS) around Tongyi Qianwen and other infrastructure and application FMs. Alibaba Cloud’s online cloud developer community has attracted over 10 million developers, and its ModelScope community for AI is further expanding its market influence and accelerating innovation around genAI in the cloud.
